One of the most-loved features of clear aligners is that they are removable. You can (and should!) take your Invisalign out of your mouth several times each day so you can eat and maintain a clean mouth. But what if it is a little tricky for you to get your aligners out? Continue reading this blog post. It contains practical tips on how to easily remove your clear aligners.
Start at the Back
Instead of gripping your clear aligner where it contacts your front teeth, reach into your mouth and start removing it from the back. Simply place a fingertip on the inner side of your aligner, close to one of your back molars, and give it a gentle tug. Do the same thing on the other side and gradually work your way forward.
Do Not Remove Your Aligners after a Cold Drink
It is okay to drink cold wear while you are wearing your Invisalign. However, it is important to remember that the water’s low temperature might make your aligners lose some of their flexibility. They tend to be easiest to remove when they are not room temperature.
Please not that you should not consume a hot drink with the goal of loosening your aligners. High temperatures could warp the plastic and make your Invisalign unusable.
Supplement Your Grip
If your fingers tend to slide right off of your aligners, you might need extra assistance to get a firm grip on them. For example, many patients have found that using a paper towel makes it easier to grab their Invisalign trays. You could also try using thin surgical gloves.
Use an Aligner Hook
An aligner hook somewhat resembles a crochet hook, but it has a very different purpose. You can use it to gently tug your aligners out of your mouth. It can be especially helpful if you have attachments on your Invisalign.
As a side note, please be cautious when you are using an aligner hook. You do not want to accidentally injure the delicate soft tissues in your mouth!
Trim Your Fingernails
Long nails can look beautiful, but they can also get in the way when you are trying to remove your Invisalign. Keep your nails reasonably short so it is easier for you to get a good grip on your aligners.
Is it a little challenging for you to remove your Invisalign aligners? Hopefully, one of the tips in this article will make things easier for you!
