Can Veneers Straighten Your Teeth?

If your teeth are crooked, you have probably contemplated the idea of getting braces or Invisalign clear aligners. Certainly, those options are very effective, but they do have a downside — they can take months or years to finish their job! For some people, a much faster alternative is available: dental veneers. This treatment is sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics!” Continue reading below to learn more about how veneers might be able to straighten your teeth.

How Do Veneers Straighten Teeth?

Veneers are small pieces of porcelain, which are shade-matched to blend in with your natural dental enamel. They are attached to the outward-facing surfaces of teeth with the purpose of hiding aesthetic imperfections, including chips, cracks, stains, and yes, even some cases of minor dental misalignment!

Of course, it is important to note that, unlike orthodontic treatment, veneers do not actually move the teeth. They can simply give the appearance that the teeth are straight.

The Benefits of Veneers vs. Braces

Veneers offer some distinct advantages over braces and Invisalign:

  • Treatment time. The veneers process can take as few as two appointments spread out across a couple of weeks. In contrast, orthodontia may take several months or longer.
  • Other aesthetic advantages. Veneers are a sort of “all-in-one” treatment that can address multiple flaws at once.
  • Easy maintenance. In many ways, taking care of veneers is just like taking care of natural teeth. You will not have to worry about food restrictions or a complex oral hygiene routine.

Are Veneers Right for You?

Veneers are not suitable for every case of dental misalignment. If your teeth are too crooked, it might not be possible for them to support veneers. Plus, some cases of misalignment are not merely about aesthetics; they are a matter of oral health, so correcting them with braces or Invisalign can be an important means of preventing complications down the road.

Your dentist can advise you on whether veneers are a good way to disguise your dental misalignment. If you need braces first, do not be discouraged! After you complete your orthodontic treatment, you may eventually become a good candidate for veneers if they remain something that you are interested in.

You might not need to spend months in braces to straighten your teeth! Talk to your dentist to find out if veneers are right for you.
