How Dental Insurance Works
Every dental policy comes with its own set of rules and stipulations, so it is important that you get to know your unique plan. In the meantime, here is a generalized overview of the coverage that is common with many PPO policies:
- Preventive care, including cleanings and exams, is usually 100% covered.
- Minor services, such as fillings and simple extractions, may be up to 80% covered.
- Major services, like crowns and dentures, are usually up to 50% covered.
- Orthodontia may be up to 50% covered under some premium plans.
- Cosmetic services are typically not covered.
Your plan may also come with a deductible, a waiting period before you are eligible for certain types of coverage, and an annual maximum.
What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?
Dental insurance has a strong focus on preventing and treating issues that directly affect the health of the teeth and gums. Medical insurance has a broader focus and does not cover most dental services, such as cleanings, exams, and fillings. In some cases, there is a bit of crossover between medical and dental insurance, particularly when it comes to some types of oral surgery.
In-Network vs. Out-of-Network
Whether or not we are in your insurance plan’s network, you may still be able to use your benefits in our practice. Simply talk to our team to find out how your policy might apply to our services.
In-Network Coverage
If a practice is in-network with a particular insurance plan, it means they have a contract that controls prices and sets expectations for the level of care that is provided. Here at Willow Run Dental Association, we are proud to be in-network with:
- Northeast Delta Dental
- Logistis Health Incorporated
- And many more! In fact, we proudly accept more than 200 different dental insurance plans.
Out-of-Network
If you have a PPO plan and we are not in your network, we still welcome you to visit us. We will be happy to file insurance claims on your behalf, and you may get to enjoy most of the same benefits that you would at an in-network practice. Remember, network status should not be the most important factor you consider when you are choosing a dentist!
